Embrace your shrinkage.

Image
Shrinkage is one of the major struggles curly girls go through especially the 4c texture. Most times it leaves you wondering what happened to your length or it ruins your styles. This usually happens on your wash day or when the weather is humid. However,  it doesn't matter the reasons for the shrinkage but a huge eye opener when the hair transforms from its shrunken state to a stretched state. Now, for this transformation to happen, you don't need to be a professional hair stylist,  you can try easy styles like the Bantu knots, twist-outs, braid-out, and even old school corn row. Blow out also gives you the most length but make sure to use cool air. Shrinkage shows that your hair is healthy,  so for your natural hair to go back to its shrunken state after been stretched shows that your hair is healthy. It is important to focus on the health of your hair more than being length conscious. The big deal is, if your hair is healthy, your hair will grow. Lastly, ...

My Natural Hair Regime.

The first thing i like to do on my wash day is the  pre-poo,  my hair love coconut oil  and thats what i use for it, most times when i want to do a hot oil treatment, i mix it with Extra virgin olive oil. For my  detangling, i prefer to first finger detangle then use a wide tooth comb to remove the knots (cos i detect them) before shampooing  or co-washing , then i proceed to wash my hair in about 6 chunky twists. I have made it mandatory to deep condition  my hair on every wash day for about twenty to thirty minutes OR i leave it for hours if my hair needs extra attention. After which i follow with Apple Cider Vinegar rinse (ACV). Next i apply my leave-in conditioner and seal the moisture with an  oil. I do wash my hair every once in two weeks because of my busy schedules and it takes me two and half hours with the current length of my hair which i think is okay. As for my hair products, i am not really a fan of many products (lol) but you can...

DIY DEEP CONDITIONERS FOR NATURAL HAIR.

Image
I have been carrying my natural hair for close to 9months, I never believe I could carry it this long but as a Hair Therapist, I conquered it. I discovered three DIY conditioners that works best on my hair and helped keep my hair soft and moisturized, so I will be sharing these recipes to all my curly friends especial those in their transitioning stage. DIY means 'Do It Yourself', so these are conditioners that you can do by yourself and you can find the ingredients easily. 1. AVOCADO MASK. This mask helps to keep the hair shiny and soft, it penetrates the hair shaft making it moisturized. Items used:   * Avocado   * banana   * coconut oil (or olive oil, any oil that works well on your hair). Blend avocado, banana and coconut oil very well until the chunks are not seen, apply to the hair strands and cover with a shower cap or nylon cap, leave for 20minutes and then rinse with water. 2. OLIVE OIL AND HONEY. This pair works great as a deep conditioner, they penet...

PROTECTIVE STYLE -- TWISTS

Image
Twists are a great way to get a gorgeous style that can be worn for an extended period of time without putting in a lot of effort. Getting the look involves twisting strands of hair together to give an illusion of loose dreadlocks. I will be sharing with you the basics of proper care to ensure your hair continues to look its best. Caring for Twists It's important to remain attentive to your twists as you would to any other hair style. Proper care and maintenance will help them look their best for the longest amount of time. Maintaining Twists are fairly easy to maintain once you get a set routine down. To help make the process easier, focus on these tips:   • Make sure your hair is twisted to the ends when you get it done. Any untwisted portion will tend to fray and cause split ends over time.   • Use a leave-in conditioner to help you maintain smooth twists and protect your hair so it will still be healthy and gorgeous when you are ready to take th...
